Coaching
We are all sad to see long time coach Jesse Cole leave the box. However we are super happy at the great opportunity he was given!
Many of you have asked who would be taking over the programming. I believe we have someone who is well qualified to do so (NOT ME). Bodhi will be programming our WODs. He has a deep knowledge of movement and human performance through his work with high level athletes, NASM and CF-L1 certifications, competitive CrossFit training, and a Masters in Exercise Science. I have full faith in him and his ability to help our community achieve our fitness goals.
Over the next several weeks we’ll be refining the coaching schedule. We hope to get it mostly set, however it will always remain fluid based on our coaches needs. Every week TRIIB will be update with the coaching schedule.
Coaching development will be a big part of our year coming up. All coaches will be receiving their CF-L2 certification. This will improve our coaching staff’s ability to manage groups and coach foundational movements more effectively. This is a phenomenal certification that will add a lot of value to every member who comes to class.
Ambassador Program
Joining a gym is often times intimidating. We want to eliminate that fear as much as possible. We will be assembling a team of ambassadors who would like to help welcomer new members to our gym. These ambassadors will simply be a workout friend during the first couple of classes after a new member finishes their onboarding sessions. The ambassador will show them where equipment is, encourage them, introduce them to other members, and get to know them (coaches will also be doing this). You will not be expected to coach new members on their movement. Ambassadors will still get a great workout while being a workout buddy! There will be some benefits for these ambassadors as a show of gratitude. New Ambassadors will be selected every 6 months. Email us if you’re interested in doing this, and I will share more details!
Member Advisory Board
If you’re the type of person who likes to plan events, decorate, or give feedback, this might be for you. This group will meet once per quarter. I’ll be looking for general feedback on how our CrossFit Eden Prairie community is doing, how events during that time period went, and what events or programs we should implement/improve.
8 Week Athletic Performance
Bodhi has put together a program which incorporates the explosive training he does with his athletes and our Olympic lifting cycle. The goal is to develop strength AND the fast twitch muscle fibers we use to run, jump, and lift explosively.
It begins Saturday April 3rd. Class will start at 11:15 and will be 1 hour and 15 minutes long. We will require you to RSVP for the class by 12:00 PM Friday afternoon. This will be a hard deadline. Bodhi will take Friday afternoon to plan Saturday’s class based on the number of participants and equipment needed/available.
Skill Improvement Groups
One of the most rewarding things about CrossFit is learning a new skill. Whether it’s a technical skill like Double Unders that require agility, accuracy, and balance; or a strength skill like a PR Deadlift. We are always striving to learn or improve skills. Often times it does require a little bit of extra work to achieve these goals. Spending time before or after class to practice pays huge dividends.
In order to help many of you advance your skills, we’ll be putting together some template for popular movements. These templates will include accessory work, skill drills, and a recommended practice routine.
In addition to these templates, we will group individuals who all want to learn that movement. There will be one kick-off class where a coach will run through the accessory work, drills, and answer any questions about the movement.
Here is how it will work:
Kelsey, Chris, and Bodhi all want to learn how to do pull-ups. They sign up at the beginning of the quarter to be a part of the pull-up team for that quarter. The pull-up kick-off class is on Tuesday night at 5:30. Coach Malory will be leading it outside of the normal CrossFit class. She will demo the accessory work, drills, and coach Kelsey, Bodhi, and Chris while they practice. After that class it will be up to the three participants to do that extra work on their own time. Additionally the three participants can do the work together and encourage each other throughout this journey to get a pull-up!
The first skill templates and teams will be launched in April. An official kick-off email will be sent with the movements selected and how to sign-up.
